I’ve heard that some clinics offer anesthesia-free dentistry. Is this safe for my pet?

Even if the person performing a anaesthetic-free pet dental is highly skilled and experienced and the pet is extremely cooperative, it is impossible to effectively and painlessly remove tarter from underneath the gum lines, the tongue side surface of the teeth and the very back teeth. Furthermore if the end result of dental cleaning is not completely polished and smooth, tarter will quickly build up again. Although aneasthetic-free dental cleaning gives the outer surface of the teeth a cleaner look and is pleasing to the eye, there is no significant benefit to your pet’s health and does not improve your pet’s breath. For these reasons it is not safe to perform or offer anaesthetic-free dentistry and is even illegal in the province of Ontario
